It has become a useful tradition to hold the annual children’s drawing contest “Labor protection seen by children”. The editorial team of the “Labor Protection” magazine with the support from the State Service of Ukraine on Labor Safety have been holding this contest for 10 years. This event is timed to coincide with the Occupational Safety Day in Ukraine, which is celebrated on April 28. It has been 2 years since the congratulations, graduations, rewards, prizes for winners and other joyful and solemn activities had to be transferred to the local administrations of the State Labor Service of Ukraine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The contest consists of two stages and children from 6 to 18 years can take part in it. This year children sent a record number of entries to the contest – more than 14 thousand from all over Ukraine. Perhaps it is somehow connected with the 10 years anniversary date of this competition.
This year, for the first time, a special nomination from DEZEGA company was represented – “Use of personal respiratory protection equipment during mining operations”. All drawings that revealed the topic of respiratory protection during mining operations and in the general composition of which a mine self-contained self-rescuer or an self-contained breathing apparatus for mine rescue operations were depicted, laid claim to the special nomination.
The winners of the children’s contest in the category “Use of personal respiratory protection equipment during mining operations” are:
- Anna Lytvyn, Krasnograd, Kharkiv region, 16 years old (“Miner, remember about safety precautions”).
- Kateryna Bezpalko, Semenovka village, Poltava region, 11 years old (“Respiratory protection is your way to work safety!”).
- Viktoria Zvyazok, Malye Gribovichi village, Lviv region, 16 years old (“Individual respiratory protection equipment”).
A special prize for an original idea – Sergey Feofanov, Slavyansk, Donetsk region, 15 years old (“Superhero – Miner”).
Our sincere congratulations to the winners! Inexhaustible inspiration and further wins in subsequent contests.
Children received diplomas, as well as valuable gifts from DEZEGA: a tablet (1st place), a graphic tablet (2nd place), fitness bracelets (3rd place and a special nomination for an original idea), and wireless headphones (incentive prizes for another 10 participants).
“Labor protection seen by children” - is a social project, which rises and exposes sensitive topics and issues related to everyday safety in various spheres of life. Such contest are aimed at popularization the topic of safe and healthy work. After all, adults quite often neglect workplace safety rules. Including in the mining industry: the use of decommissioned self-rescuers or mining operations without PPE at all, non-compliance with safety rules in coal mines due to the lack of trainings for miners how to don the self-rescuer etc.
Perhaps, with the help of children’s drawings along with their slightly naive and kind outlook on labor safety, we will be able to turn the adults’ attention to these vital problems and further do the best to overcome them.
